Mythological Background:
Long ago, in the southern direction of the Himalayan mountain range, sage Jambu conducted a significant Yagna. From the sacrificial fire, a divine being named Agnikula was born, who was considered a form of Agni (fire) and the progenitor of the Kshatriya lineage. This being gave birth to Sri Math Draupadi Devi, who became the righteous consort of the Pandavas and the sister of Lord Krishna. As such, she is revered by the Agnikula clan as their clan goddess.
The temple dedicated to Sri Krishna Dharmaraja and Draupadi Devi is located in Moolapet, Nellore district, and is one of the oldest in Andhra Pradesh. It spans approximately one acre and features an east-facing entrance with a spacious courtyard that is aesthetically pleasing.
Worship Practices:
The worship practices here follow the Shakta and Dravidian traditions, carried out over many years. The main deity, Sri Math Draupadi, along with other significant idols like Sri Parthasarathi (Yudhishthira) and Sri Draviti Devi, are enshrined in the temple. To the south of the main shrine is the idol of Parikshit, and to the north is the idol of Vyanabhagavan. These idols are ancient and hold great significance.
The temple also features idols of the Pandavas, Draupadi, Parthasarathi, and Pothu Raja, among others. Rituals and festivities are conducted here regularly, attracting numerous devotees.
Key Features and Festivals:
Nagula Puttu: Situated in the southwestern corner of the temple, this site is significant for devotees who visit during Nagula Chaviti, bringing milk offerings for blessings from Sri Nagendra Swamy.
Munaswaru Shrine: To the northwest, there is a shrine dedicated to the Saptakanyakas (seven maidens), known for its special significance and the presence of a large banyan tree, believed to be the residence of Munis.
Punyatirtham Well: In the northeastern direction, a large well named Punyatirtham is situated, with water considered sacred for bathing and purification.
Festivals such as the Kshakhanda Mahotsavam are celebrated extensively, bringing in thousands of devotees who participate in the rituals and receive blessings.
The temple stands as a testament to ancient traditions, drawing people from far and wide to seek the blessings of Sri Math Draupadi and Sri Krishna Dharmaraja.
The water from the temple well is believed to purify sins and cure ailments. An Agni Yagna Shala (fire altar) is present here, where various auspicious rituals, including weddings and the Kshakhanda Mahotsavam, take place, alongside special events involving Pongal celebrations.
