Sri Siddeshwara Swamy and Sri Venugopala Swamy Temples

Location:

Krishna Patnam Village, Mutthukuru Mandal, Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore District.

History Significance and legends:

Shloka:

The village was once governed by a ruler named Thirukalatti Deva, who was known by the title Gandagopala. During the 10th and 11th centuries, Krishna Patnam became known as Gandagopala Patnam. Under the rule of Thirukalatti Deva, the Siddeshwara and Venugopala temples were restored. Over 500 years ago, this area was referred to as Gandagopala Patnam, with significant historical inscriptions indicating that representatives from 18 countries met here to plan the development of the temples.

Among the oldest temples in Nellore district, the Shiva temple and the Venugopala Swamy temple in Krishna Patnam are renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship and beautiful natural surroundings. These temples have been consecrated by deities, served by Sri Ramachandra, praised by the great poet Srinatha, and historically recognized during the reigns of the Cholas and Pallavas. Inscriptions indicate that during the 12th and 13th centuries, Maharaja Manumasiddhi undertook renovations of these temples.

Due to the passage of time, these temples fell into disrepair. A budget of ₹12 crore has been allocated for their restoration, including the renovation of the Venugopala Swamy temple (with Rukmini and Satyabhama), Kodandarama Swamy temple (with Sita and Lakshmana), Anjaneya Swamy temple, Mahalaxmi Ammavari temple, and the construction of a seven-story Rajagopuram and a spacious courtyard. The inauguration of the grand Kumbhabhishekam on June 10, 2023, was a joyous occasion.
